Linux and NTFS don't play nicely with each other because Linux itself does not have good writing ability within the NTFS. It would be better to shrink your NTFS partition and use unformatted space on your hard drive for the Linux installation. For another method, you can shrink your NTFS partition and format the extra space as FAT32, then let Linux change that new FAT32 space into its own file systems.

Eother way, you need to separate NTFS and Linux.

Always install Linux on a separate partition

Well, I guess my topic says it all. There already are some ways for Linux to share a partiton with DOS/Windows but everybody says the performence is poor. As for NTFS, the read-write support is only in experimental state. Still, your NTFS partition(s) will be readable under Linux but it is obviously impossible to use them for installation.
My suggestion is:
1. Free unpartioned space for Linux. I recommmend Partition Magic, which sadly is commercial software. Well, there are cracks available but I din't tell you that.
2.Make two partions(some make even more) for the Linux root directory and another one for swap space. The root partition should be the first logical or a physical one in order to be bootable.
3.Format the new partitions as ext2 ext3 or as another Linux filesystem.
4.Install
Good Luck!, you may need some
