Usually anything in a user's home directory is not vital to the system itself so you should be able to remove them. Sorry but I've never heard of an ark file myself, couldn't help you in what they actually are or do.

maybe look at the output of "ls -l" to try to figure out these files are. also, I guess you could try perusing them with "less" to try to figure out what they do.
