I've ran FC4 for a few years. I want to upgrade but I'm not sure which is the best target. Which upgrade path will cause me the least headache?
I have several home-baked apps on the box which I serve up over Apache with MySQL and PHP. I have a bunch of PHP apps sitting behind this. The box is also my mail host and DNS server. Ideally I'd like to avoid reinstalling these add-ons.
Any suggestions? Will it be possible to simply upgrade the FC rev and not have to reinstall any of the existing applications?
I have upgraded my FC3 to FC5 once. It took lot longer than installing fresh version. But, I was successfully upgraded my server. But, I won't do upgrade again if possible. Because, I could have build a fresh new server 1/3 of the time to upgrade.
Thanks. That is helpful. Were you using FC3 as a desktop? Granted, I should have probably installed RHEL3/4 versus FC, but the use of the "server" sort of evolved. If I were using this as a desktop I'd simply backup my things, blow it away and reinstall. But as it is I have a lot of "server" type services that are going to take hours and hours to recreate.
Maybe the case is the same if I would have originally installed RHEL versus FC.
