Thank you for your interest. I am looking for a Linux Distro. which uses Debian as it's base but has the wizards and tools from or simular to Mandrake or PCLinux. If there isn't one, are there any developers here that find this concept interesting enough to help port these opensource tools and wizards to a Debian system?

Ubuntu is a long ways from what I am talking about.

How about Linux Mint?

A Debian + Mandriva crossbreed? Don't think there is such an animal.

If you want something built on Debian but with nice graphical tools and is also not Ubuntu I think you should look at Mepis 7. It's very stable, fast, easy to use.

Any particular reason/debs why you want a debian based system?
PCLOS has a ridiculous amount of rpms... and more recent versions than Ubuntu in many cases.

However I think Ubuntu is not so far off. Just instead of a control center you have a settings menue. It's not that much different after that.

I also recall that Novell opensourced yast quite a while back. so maybe you can get it for debian :P

Wait, you want something Debian based and like Mandriva, something with a bunch of GUI tools and controls? That's Ubuntu fool! Now if you get a little more specific of what you actually want and the reasons why you don't want Ubuntu, then please elaborate cause what you described in your first thread is exactly what Ubuntu is, something easy to install, use and is Debian based.

I would like to thank everyone except trickykid for their replies.

I will take a look at Mint and see if it has what I am looking for.
I have tried PCLinux and was very impressed with the tools and wizards they have. It is much like Mandriva. The reason I want a Debian based system is so I wont have to deal with the whole RPM dependancy issue. Debian stable and testing dosen't have this issue.

As for why I am looking for this combination... It is for my customers. I use Debian myself and it is a wonderful distrobution but it is not known for being "New User Friendly". At this point I have 2 options for recomendations PCLinux and Ulteo Linux. I believe the best option is to find or creat a distrobution that uses debian as it's base and makes use of Mandrake's tools and wizards.

He has been watching too much daytime tv and has temporarily adopted the persona of Mr T. But he's right btw lol, not about being a fool but about what you're looking for. It doesn't exist but Ubuntu, Mint and Mepis will be closest.

You might still get dependency issues when you download alien rpms from somewhere else than the official repos.Other than that I haven't had dependency resolving issues on rpm based distros for years.

Oh gee thanks. It's members like you that waste my time. I tried to give a constructive reply, only for you to say no, without explanation. Ubuntu is one of the distributions you clearly described in what you were looking for, unless you give more details of specifics you're looking for, expect all types of responses. But clearly telling members thank you but excluding one is sort of, how can I say this.... RUDE and really uncalled for when I made good intentions from the beginning. If you didn't like my "fool" comment, it was joking.
