Hybernate SYSTEM


Windows can hybernate , so that when you boot up the next time, it is FAST to reach your windows!
Is this available in linux, like suse?

Yes. Hibernation requires Software-Suspend 2 kernel patch and the hibernate scripts. Not all drivers are compatible with that, for example my sound driver for an Emu10k1 based sound card doesn't come up cleanly - so it is functional but no sound. Has to be kicked out and reloaded.

It works quite well on my machine but it is very hardware dependent.

In addition to ACPI, there's also software suspend - http://www.suspend2.net - which I believe is hardware-independant

I just upgraded my DDR RAM from 256 to 512MB, my PC runs faster now, so i think it is not necessary for me to try hybernate in linux.
