hi guys,

does anybody here can tell me why I cant access my samba server using win 98 in out network.

any idea or site where I can find the step by step howto of samba configuration

I can connect my win98 to my Redhat 7.1 using telnet but when I Map my network drive why its alway giving me an error that the password is not correct. since I can log in also using telnet also. any idea plz?

I just set up samba on RH 7.1 myself. Win98 uses encrypted passwords. Make sure you have this option turned on in the conf file. Also, try security=share in there. Also, make sure you use the add user tool to add the user and set the password. Make sure that the user name is a valid account on the linux box or that it is set as an alias to a valid account name.

All of these tips can be found outlined in the samba howtos.

One last tip, an extremely useful tool for me was simply to attempt to log the linux box into itself. Use smbclient to do this.
