Question Having problem booting up linux... get a 9999

weird problem... and dunno what to do... I'm running slackware here, and when i boot up oi get a weird msg... its simply 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99
I think the problem is in the lilo conf or something, since I copied the original kernel from the slackware cd and it did not work at all...

Looks like you hosed up your MBR. That's what happened to me when I hosed up mine...

The next step is pretty easy. You cann either do a search on Linux Questions regarding this(search for L99) and you will find this problem discussed to shreds.

You need to get a windoze boot disc(floppy). Boot from it and type
fdisc /mbr

That will erase your mbr. Now you can boot from your Linux cd, it will have a rescue utility which you can use to reinstall lilo. Problem solved

Cheers.
