Problem booting Linux

As of yesterday, I am unable to boot Linux. It says unable to remount root device as read-write. I didn't change any LILO or /etc/fstab settings. All the same I booted from a floppy and checked all the settings. They were perfectly fine. Can anybody help me?

The floppy was created by the LILO configurator before installing it. It contains the kernel on the floppy. The system is on my hard disk.
