GRUB Error Response 22, and nothing. Can I bypass this point?

Perhaps someone out there can help me and save my laptop.

I used GRUB to dual boot XP and Ubuntu. However, I no longer need Ubuntu on this computer. I looked up how to remove Linux from my computer and another post said to delete all partitions using the Disk Manager on XP. This I did and now I get

GRUB Loading stage 1.5

GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 22

and nothing else happens. I dont have my laptop setup to boot off my CD-ROM and now it seems that I am trapped here. I can't get past this point, nor am I able to type command prompts. Is there anything I can type to bypass this point and get to the setup?

Thanks,

Grub loads after the bios is done posting, not before. If you hit the appropriate key early enough in the boot process you should be able to get into your bios setup and set your cdrom as the first boot device. You can then reinstall the windows bootloader which will overwrite grub by booting from your windows install cd and going into the recovery console and running fixmbr as described in your link.

Thanks a lot. All the blogs kept saying that this problem requires a reboot from the CD drive. My computer did not show any notes as to how to do that. I ended up finding the answer on the back of another boot disk of my newer laptop.

For the case of a Toshiba Satellite laptop, upon restarting press "C" repeatedly. The Error 22 note no longer appears and all you have is a cursor blinking at the top left of the screen. After some moments the computer will ask you if you want to erase your hard drive and begin the recovery process. I wanted to completely wipe the computer and reinitialize everything anyway, so this worked for me. I am not sure if I could have continued without deleting the hard drive however. I might have lost some very important data if it wasn't already backed up.

Thanks again for your help!

Actually
Once you were able to boot from CD,USB,Floppy, etc
You could then have used a Linux livecd to recover/restore most anything

Even with just the Grub prompt you may be able to boot from hd/usb too

The recovery process on Toshiba stinks- I refuse to buy them now. If you could have found a "normal" XP install disk (say from a mate), you could have re-installed the XP bootloader from that. Also do-able from some Linux recovery liveCDs.
Doesn't really matter now I guess.
