getting suse 10 to bypass grub menu when rebooting

Hi,

I am using a dual boot system (WinXP and Suse) on Thinkpad T40p.
I recently upgraded to suse 10 from 9.3, and found this annoying problem.

When exiting KDE, I can choose which OS to boot for the next boot by clicking on the "restart computer" button. With 9.3, I think I could bypass the grub menu with this feature. If not, I could at least designate the default selection for the grub menu.

With Suse 10, however, the restart button shows no effect. (The grub menu always appears, and the default selection does not change.) I wonder if anyone has seen the same problem and how I can fix it.

Strange, this feature is working properly on my system.

You could try to edit /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc. In the section [shutdown], uncomment or edit the entry BootManager=Grub.

Or maybe you just missed that the 'Restart' button is a pulldown menu, from which you can select the OS to restart with. You may need to hold the mouse-button a little while over the icon the see it.

Of course, I did not forget to use the pull-down menu to select the os to reboot. The problem existed for a while even after a fresh reinstall, but after installing patches using online update, the restart button began working as it is supposed to do.

I still don't know what exactly solved the problem, but it seems that the online update fixed it.
