Subject: Linux toolbar?
Date: Sun, 06 Apr 2003 22:03:53 -0700
Google Staff,
Is there any chance of releasing a google toolbar for Linux? I
dual-boot between Linux and Windows XP, and I have learned to perfer
Linux over Windows by a great degree, and the Linux population is
steadily increasing from people like me who have been exposed to the OS.
I go to a Linux forum at www.linuxquestions.org, and have heard so
many people saying that it licks balls that there's no Google toolbar
for Linux. Do you think there will ever be a Linux release? Thanks!!
Er, if you are using Mozilla you already have this built in. Type in your search word in the location box and hit the 'search' button next to it -- it searches via the Netscape search engine at http://search.netscape.com .. which is actually powered by Google.

I use Netscape 7.02 and it lets me change the engine under the 'Search' button on the right hand side of the location bar under preferences -> Navigator -> Internet Search
I'm not sure, but optimistic that Mozilla will have some similar feature. Most possibly, identical.
If it doesnt work, you can always create a new bookmark in your 'Personal Toolbar folder', and edit its properties to point to this link.
javascript is one word. Somehow, I cant get it displayed right in the post.
From now on, you can higlight a word or a phrase and click on this new bookmark hotbutton and Mozilla will run it agains google. If you dont have anything selected, you will be prompted. I have similar a similar bookmark for www.m-w.com ( Merriam Webster Dictionary Lookup)

I tried those. didn't help!! They make the entire line of text display in one line ( lots of horizontal scrolling ) but still put a space between 'java' and 'script'.
in Opera 7.11 (which rocks, yup i know it is not an open source though)
there is a lot of searching facilities.
g word = search the word via google
x word = search the word via google/linux
a word = via alltheweb
and so on..
Opera rocks! (with mouse gestures, with keyboards shortcuts, with better tabbed browsing..) with all that, i never use GoogleBar neither in Windows nor in Linux.. try it (if you are not a pure RMS fan) LOL
