Has anyone else tried Google's just-released toolbar for Firefox?
I'm afraid I'm not very impressed... of course, it's nice of Google to start porting their software to OSS platforms, but in this case we already have an Open Source Googlebar which, frankly, seems to work better.
The functionality appears to be almost identical, but for some reason the official toolbar seems to be a bit sluggish and less responsive. Don't get me wrong: It 's not bad, but it's not great either.
I'll be sticking with the Open Source Googlebar for now.
Originally posted by cereal83 Are you serious? It's a toolbar. There is no way it can be sluggish. The only thing that can make is sluggish, is your hardware.
Have you tried it?
I'm not sure what Google did or didn't do, but the text box seems to lag slightly while I'm typing. Not enough to be a real problem, but it's a bit annoying.
The built in search bar in Firefox works for me. I like the fact that I can add search engines to it. Plus if you install the Search sidebar you can refine your searches and use more than one search engine.

I like the privacy policy that says it will track the sites you visit if you enable the "Advanced" features like the netcraft site ranking. The netcraft toolbar for firefox + Firefoxes built in google search is more than enough for me. I have enough companies trying to come up with new fangled ways to track and annoy me. Thanks anyway google. :-)
However, If I switch on to Fedora (which wud happen after an year
I may use google's toolbar
(it says it is for Redhat Linux 8.0+ :-o that's good...)....
