Gnome/Ximian problem

Ok..fresh install of RH 7.2....I do startx into KDE and go to ximian.com. I download and install Ximian desktop (171MB) and quit to the command line after its finished. When I type "startx", KDE still comes up. When I type "gnome-session", it tells me it's unable to open display or something like that. Any ideas? I really want to throw away Windows.

before you get into X, at the console type:
startx Gnome

You can create a .xinitrc file in your /home/xxxx directory adding startx <windowmanager> and comment out the line in
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to automatically load gnome when you type startx.

startx gnome or startx gnome-session give me a drm error with a bunch of other crap
