gMFSK and ALSA

Dont know if this is the correct forum bu anyway here goes...
Running mepisPro with kernel 2.6.7 with ALSA loaded as sound system. I am attempting to use gMFSK, a ham digital mode program. Unfortunately this is written for the OSS system and does not appear to want to work with ALSA. I believe I may have to use OSS emulation under ALSA but not sure how to do this. If I select OSS under the KDE Control Panel, then gMFSK still doesn't work and neither does any other sound device. Help would be greatly appreciated as I only use Ham Radio on digital and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!!
