Fuse timestamp wrapper?

Hi all,

I want to use box.net to make encrypted online backups. Box.net offers 50GB free lifetime cloud storage these days.
My setup would be davfs2 to mount https://www.box.net, encfs to provide an encrypted store and rsync to sync my data into that.

Unfortunately box.net doesn't support timestamps witch is very stupid (Box.net forum) and so rsync isn't working like it should.

My thought was to have an other virtual filesystem that provide a timestamp wrapper stored in db-files per folder. I already read the manpages of fuse encfs and davfs2. Doesn't look like they provide something like that.

Is there anything that could do that? Or is the whole idea just stupid?

Best regards,
Germar

You're not forced to use the service. You don't pay anything. So I don't see you having any reason, let alone valid ones, to scoff at anyone offering you 50GB storage for free.

Why not run based rsync with "--checksum" instead?

Ja, you're right. Shouldn't have called it stupid. That was a bit harsh. But still I don't see the point of restricting that. AFAIK they don't even offer a paid option to enable timestamp.

--checksum would result in a complete download of all Data, wouldn't it? I'm trying to avoid that

Best regards,
Germar

It would result in syncing whole files but as time stamps aren't available that's the only option as far as I understand Rsync.
