Fluxbox Menu Problems

Hi, I got adventurous and wanted to try out Fluxbox for a change instead of Gnome. I really like having the menu at "my finger tips". But how do I keep my changes to the menu? Everytime I log out and back in the menu is reset. My key changes stay the same, but not the menu. Any help is appreciated.

are you editing ~/.fluxbox/menu or some other file?

Well I seem to have gotten it to work, though I don't know if this the best way or not. I edited the init file to look for a different file for the menu. I then created this new file which is working.

I am going to post this here in case anyone else is having this problem. I found out what was wrong.

On Fedora My menu is overwritten on every Startup, How do I fix it

For some reason the Fedora guys decided to make the default startup file run their custom menu generator command. To prevent your changes from being over ridden open your startup file and look for

if [ -x /usr/bin/fluxbox-xdg-menu ]; then
/usr/bin/fluxbox-xdg-menu --with-icons &
fi

Just remove this from the startup file and your menu changes will no longer get lost on each startup.

Man, that is one evil piece of code. I wonder how many bald heads that is going to cause.......

If you haven't tried it already, the FluxMenu tool is a pretty nice way to edit your Fluxbox menu and the other tools let you play with a few other configuration options.

Thank you for pointing out Fluxmenu. I have seen it but I have not messed with it very much since all the guides tell you how to do things by editing the files.
