fedora download

I know that Windows likes to store files according to Gibibytes, but why is Fedora Core downloading in an MiB format? Is that Mibibytes?

Yes it is.

Windows confuses a lot of peoble because it says GB, MB, KB but actually measures in units of GiB, MiB, and KiB.

Almost all Linux software does this correctly, though. When Linux says KB, it means 1000 bytes. When Linux says KiB, it means 1024 bytes.

But when Windows says KB, it means 1024, and that's simply wrong.

EDIT: See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix

Note that under the "Consumer Confusion" section are all Windows software, and under the good examples there is only Linux screenshots!

Well said MTK358. When I try to explain this to people, I just confuse them.

Lou

EDIT: You might want to comment on Windows reported file size being based on HD formatting rather than bytes consumed.

MS has always confused me

except for the star-trek Borg references

also hard drive manufactures do the same thing
using the GiB and posting it as GB

well the GiB is bigger GB
