Hello Everyone,
First time posting, never used Linux before. Am trying to use my Windows(2000) machine to download Fedora 7 for a different machine(laptop). Went to download pages, decided on i386 Live version of distribution but Internet explorer gives error trying to access FTP site.

Command line FTP doesn't work very well either and I don't want to download Bit-torrent.

Any help in getting IE to access the FTP site would be appreciated.

Use wget for Windows then: http://pages.interlog.com/~tcharron/wgetwin.html

wget ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub...s/7/Live/i386/

Please choose a mirror close to your location, or the ftp site you tried earlier.
Hint: the wget command does have a valid ftp address to use with IE

What does wget do, map a drive?

If i use my hard drive as a mirror, will it try and copy all the files to my hard drive when I execute the command?

wget is a command line download utility (think of it as 'web get' maybe???).

All you need is the binary package: http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/wg...3_1-binary.zip

Install it then from the command prompt (cmd) type this command;


for example:
$ wget ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub...-Live-i686.iso
--07:01:39-- ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub...-Live-i686.iso
=> `Fedora-7-Live-i686.iso'
Resolving download.fedora.redhat.com... 209.132.176.20, 209.132.176.220, 66.187.224.20
