Error everytime the package tries to update

Hi,

I am using openSuse 11 on a gnome desktop. Each time I switch on the machine or each time the system tries to look for updates I get the following error -

"http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/openSUSE_11.0/: Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s)"

I have been getting this for a few weeks now, I have no idea went wrong, I did not install any new software or make any changes to the system as far as I remember.

Can anyone help Please?
Thank you

OpenSUSE 11.0 has been discontinued last July (see announcement here) so that you will not find any new update from now on. Also check this page for information about lifetime of OpenSUSE releases. The URL you posted is not valid anymore. You can check it by opening http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...e.org:/STABLE/ in a new TAB of your current browser and see that directory OpenSUSE 11.0 has been removed. The official oss, non-oss and update repositories are still available on the mirrors, but they will soon moved together with the other discontinued releases. A new installation or an upgrade to the latest release is strongly advised.

Thank you Colucix for that. if I upgrade to a newer version will that mess with the other programmes I have or do I have to format and re install the whole thing?

If I were to choose a different OS, which one would you recommend that would be similar to openSuse?

Cheers,
