I have been using Gmail [usually on the online GUI] for many years and whilst trying to delete some older msgs i somehow managed to corrupt the All Mail folder. I could send [but not saved] and could not receive.

I have been irritated by their 'pop up window' for replying to emails so decided to have a change and chose yahoo. To my horror i found that yahoo and MSN [hotmail, live and outlook] DO NOT talk to each other. I know this because a friend uses 'live and when his emails bounced back i opened my own outlook account to check.

Is this common knowledge that i don't know?

I recall about 25 years ago they would sometimes block each other but i'd have thought now they'd have grown up a little.

I’m confident that an email bounce is not caused by Yahoo or Microsoft blocking each other. You don’t specify which server bounced the message, but the bounce should have identified the reason.

Also. I almost never use Gmail’s web gui. I just connect with Firefox on the ‘puters or Mail on the iThings. Use those clients to connect to AOL/yahoo too.

I did notice a significant increase in spam from Microsoft email servers recently that later tapered off. Sounds like it got bad enough to hit an RBL. I’ve reported all offenses to Microsoft…maybe that will help.

Thank you for your replies. It seems now that Yahoo and microsoft have sorted things out.

I could send from yahoo to a friend who uses live. His reply was bounced back. I then set up my own account with outlook to further explore - emails would bounce back from either.

On Friday it seems that the matter had been sorted out. But only after i had spent much time advising my contacts of changing email. Then of course on finding the problem changing all emails to another gmail account. I've gone back to using gmail as one doesn't know when there could be a re-occurrence.

I just got bitten by something similar when trying to forward an email to a hotmail.com address.
I found this page with links to IP blacklist-checking tools. Checking my ISP's email server address, I found that it was on a spam blocking list. I have sent an email to the ISP postmaster. I hope that after demonstrating mitigation, my ISP email server address can be delisted.

If you want webmail, are you limited to MSN & Yahoo? Really?
