Question DVD Movie: Disney's Pirates of the Carribean 4 not playing...any player (Time Urgent)

Hi. I have a DVD Rental that I'm trying to watch and that's why I marked as Time Urgent.

The DVD that I am trying to watch is Pirates of the Carribean 4 On Stranger Tides.

I know the disk works because I have tried it on an actual DVD Player as well as a couple of Windows Machines and it played.

I have also tried other movie titles and no problem.

When I insert this one, it will not even launch to play when using the command line
Code:
mplayer -vo gl -fs -pp 3 dvd://
or
mplayer -vo gl -ao alsa -channels 2 -noautosub -fs -pp 3 -capture dvd://
or
mplayer -vo gl -ao alsa -channels 2 -noautosub -fs -pp 3 dvdnav://
I have tried VLC as well and no player seems to want to let it play.

Any ideas as to how to fix this problem? I only have this DVD Movie on Rental for 2 more days then I have to return it. I have had it for 2 weeks now trying to get it to play and have come up empty doing a web search. I heard something not to long ago that Disney had made changes to the Copy Right Protection and wonder if that is the cause.

The only means I have to watch is on my Linux Machine.

Mint should have the required files to play DVD's by default - I'm assuming you installed Mint with a standard DVD image and not from the CD version without codecs. To check for file(s) required to play DVD's,

Code:
locate libdvdcss
this should return files from /usr/lib and /usr/share/doc.

Have you tried playing DVD using just,

Code:
mplayer dvd://
Also you could run VLC from the command line and see what messages appear in the console when you try to play the DVD.

related?

Which version of libdvdread does Mint 12 have? According to the link above, if it's below 4.2.0 then it's too old.

the one showing as installed is libdvdread4 version=4.1.3-10ub.

It now plays in VLC but not mplayer. With VLC, can only play using the GUI.

As this is no longer an urgent issues I was able to watch it via VLC but mplayer or any other would not let it play.

I'm marking as solved but please feel free to explore any addition that could be helpful to others.

Thank you everyone that tryed to help.
