during grep -R gnome session stop responding

Hi,
When I try to grep -R with '/' area of searching, my gnome session is stop responding, the screen looks like, if you are issuing some probe of display command with different colors through all the monitor, it is not happened if I search (greping) less wide area or something specific like /home/user/something

the xorg.0.log, messages.log with nothing interesting (for me at least)
