Distributing A Linux Installation

Good Evening All,

I need some help figuring something out. Here is the situation. I have a single laptop that I have configured just as I need it configured. Now, I need to distribute that distribution to 30 other computers via CD or DVD. I am using Red Hat 6.5. The installation will have custom applications on it for the project I am working on, so it will not simply be the OS files.

I have been trying to find a way to do this with tools that are available from the operating system. I know of tools like Clonezilla but do not want to use them because of the red tape that I would need to go through to be authorized to use them. Can anyone help me with this?

I do not mind reading somewhere else about how to do this, but at least need someone to point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
SpinnerDuck

Vagrant or puppet is a common solution. But you'll likely have to go through red tape for that if you need to for clonezilla.

Another common solution is to package up your custom software into RPM packages and then create a PXE server using RHEL kickstart. You can use cobbler to assist installation of the machines with kickstart and then as part of the install process install your custom software packages. That will likely be your least path of resistance.

I can't say to any legal issues involved in copying red hat. You'd have to contact red hat for that answer.

Clonezilla is a collection of common tools. It tends to use file by file copy if it can read the filesystem or use dd if it can't. It works best for identical systems.

Interesting way that claims to do it live. Not sure if that means live state or live cd. http://relax-and-recover.org/

Yeah, good stuff. Useless on Slackware (no LSB stuff) so I'll have to make another VM, install something 'supported' and have a go.
The video does make it look "easy".
Certainly seems flexible and has potential.
