dd appeared to foobar FC6

The last significant thing I did was to use dd to clone my hard drive while doing other stuff. Now certain apps don't open and Zod acts funny. When I reboot I see the following for each service:

Quote:
rm: cannot remove /var/lock/subsys/"name of service" Read Only file system
Did using dd while checking e-mail and surfing foo bar something? I'm ceratin that I'm running on the original hard drive. I installed chkrootkit and a scan reveled nothing. I also check log files and didn't see anything special. Ideas?

Using dd (or any copying utility) while using the drive for something else is not a good idea. Because you are writing to the disk at the same time you are copying it, the outcome is not predictable. This is **particularly** true with dd. Because it is operating at a low level, you do not know what files are being copied at any given time.

I did the following:

Code:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb
Next time I will boot from a liveCD.
Thanks for the help. I guess I might reload. I was planning on moving to Debian anyway.
