Cups printing delay of 30 sec. btwn documents

I am having a problem with two printers (both HP 4000TN laser printers w/ HP JetDirect cards) on our network (since recently upgrading to RHEL 5).

When printing, these two printers take about a minute to print each 1 page document. lpstat reveals the following inbetween documents:

<Printer> is busy, down, or unreachable; will retry in 30 seconds...

Is there any way to change this 30 second delay?

Note: we also have two HP 4050TNs that are not doing this.

Does it take the printer 1 minute for one page or the page one minute to get the printer's printing status to start flashing (or whatever indicator says a document is incoming)?

It takes 1 minute between documents getting to the printer. One document starts, prints and then there is a 30 second delay when it tries to send the next job to the printer. This has only started happening since we upgraded from RHEL 3 to 5. All printers were working well before.
