connecting to remote equipment using modem


i have some very old remote equipment that can be dialed into using a modem
(at 300 baud!!!)

it then works as if you were sat at its serial console.

how would i go about emulating a VT100 using my modem so i can call it and use its console?

I like minicom for serial terminal emulation.

mgetty seems to be the thing to do what i want in reverse

im connecting form my linux box,
via a modem to a peice of remote equipment i want (that will answer the modem and give me its commandline as if i was sat infront of it with a serial terminal)

cutecom seems to be the type of thing that im after...
i just need to set up my USB hardware modem....
which i have no idea how to do

it looks like this cutecom is basically the same as minicom but with a GUI. it should work quite well.
