Configuring X Server

I have a P4 1.4 Mhz system. My display card is Trident Blade XP. I am not able to configure X server. I used Xconfigurator to configure the X. Whenever I start it I was told to configure the mouse. But after configuring it the program stops in between saying error in a file. The error is b'coz of an entry pointing to the mouse. I commented it and was able to start Xconfigurator. But was not successful. Help

What Linux Distro are you using?
What type of mouse ps2/ usb/serial?

Are you saying X start OK, but the mouse doesn't work?
if so try killing gpm (console mouse driver)

killall gpm
and then restart X

I am using Redhat Linux 7.1
Mouse is a seriel one and connected to com1
I am not able to start Xconfigurator due to error with the mouse. I have to comment a line which will ignore the mouse. Then Xconfigurator is works perfect but doesn't get the conf right so no GUI

My guess would be that gpm (console mouse drive)
is causing a conflick, I seen this happen.

gpm -k , to kill it
then try Xconfigurator

or if worse comes to worse xf86configure
