Computer RESTARTS after entering the grub kernel selection screen
I have RED HAT. After starting the computer, The TITLE is displayed and after i press enter, the computer just restarts within 10 sec. Can anyone help me out?
Can you provide a bit more information? What is "the TITLE"? Do you mean the grub kernel selection screen? Or do you mean after you select the kernel a hang occurs? If so, please provide the exact messages that appear (if any). Also, what release are you running? What kernel? Have you ever applied maintenance to the system?
Yeah it is the Kerel selection screen. After i press enter, about 10/15 seconds later, it automatically restarts. I am running RED HAT 9 and i have just installed it. The kernal hang doesnt occurs.
No messages are displayed before the restart? It's likely that this is an unhandled condition of the base installation. It may have been fixed three years ago in the maintenance, but that's of limited use if you can't boot.
Any chance you could install something more recent, like Fedora Core 5? At least the base kernel is more up to date on that distribution, so you could (possibly) get to the point where you could apply maintenance.
