Changing Text mode in the tty (doesn't work through GRUB)

Hey, I'm Dave and new so forgive if this is the wrong section to display the question.
I have been playing around with Fedora 10. One annoyance I have is the size of the text in the tty. The vgs resolution is way too high.
Now I know you can change it in grub using the vga=(???) where (???) is a decimal number from the vga table.
I do that and it works but then another process takes over to create the high rest tty mode on the console. I pray it's not a kernel compile just to change the text mode. I prefer plain old 80*25. Is there a way to get around this issue.
(note during bootup) I do see a statement stating that it's changing the text resolution to a higher mode. I'm sure it's in the bootup sequence somewhere.
I welcome your excellent help since I know you guys know a lot more than I do!

Dave...

Your terminology is confusing me somewhat. Try this;
- edit the "rhgb" out of the kernel line.
- if that doesn't get all you want, also take out "quiet".

Looking better ?.

fixed

Hello,

Sorry about terminology. I wrote it when it was late at night (like now). Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Anyway, removing rhgb (red hat graphical boot) and quiet did of course display more of the boot and that I already had setup.

What I discovered was nomodeset in grub. This apparently forces Fedora to ignore bumping up the text resolution for the console display. I added it to grub and that fixed the problem.

You didn't mention ATI.

hey

I'm going to make the assumption you mean the video card since I can't think of anything else that you might be referring too but I want to respond properly to your question. Yes the video card is indeed an ATI (radeon express). It's the built in chipset on an ASUS motherboard.

Hope that helps.
