Changing scrren resolution in text mode in RedHat 9

After installing RedHat 9 on my machine I changed my resolution to 1152 x 768. After i logged out to make the changes take effect my monitor displays "Out of Sync" error (the one when a resolution is not supported). I need to revert back to a lower resolution. But since my X-windows doent display any thing i ned to do it via text mode.

vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

go down untill u find
Section "Monitor"
make sure that HorizSync and VertRefresh values are correct.

or you can try find
Section "Screen"
and change Modes value to "800x600"

there resides a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
i don't know what its in redhat.......but at least its inside /etc/X11.
its content is the configuration of your system which your o/s detects and which you sets.

i'm pasting a relevent part of it::

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

just by changing the Mode "1024x768" can change the resolution..
