Cool can't 'su' while in graphic mode?

Hi guys,

ive been using linux for almost a year now and im tryin different distros to see which one fits my needs best. So far, i prefer Gentoo 1.4, but their is just one thing that really pisses me off: I can't switch users (su) while using any graphical desktop (I get a "su: permission denied" error msg). Im practically sure i read about this bug (or is it a security feature?) somewhere but i just cant remember. i googled for it but i just can't find anything relevant. Does anyone care to help me out? Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sure its a security feature, as I can turn up my security level in SuSE and make it so no one can su no matter if they are in x or text console.
