Unhappy how do i get into graphic mode on RH 9.0?


HI evree1 its kyle again,
i have re-installed RH 9 and it is installed fine i now know how to get rooted and i have the password but how do i get into graphic mode?
i only see everything in command mode
this is what i get on my screen:

Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike)
Kernel 2.4.20-8 on an i686

localhost login: root
Password: (doesntshow)
[root@localhost root]#


How do i get out of text mode and get into graphical mode (like with pic's and icons and that)?

Please help, DO i have to configure my graphic card or something?
I appreciate any help i can get....

yes, you do have to configure xfree, but unless you have an unusual setup it wil all be done.
it looks like you've chosen the text-mode option in setup, what you have to do is login as root, use emacs to edit /etc/inittab, and reboot.
step-by-setp :-
Login
run emacs /etc/inittab
scroll down until you find a line that says something like 'id:3:initdefault:'
change the 3 to 5, then press [CTRL] + X , then [CTRL] + S to save
to exit, type [CTRL] + X, and [CTRL] + C
then you can reboot, although if you prefer, you can run the command '/sbin/telinit 5 && exit'
