I messed up and trying to update freetype. I screwed-up on making teh ln -s. Now I can't load KDE2. I'm told I should uninstall the freetype rpm that came with the distro, then re-install it and things shoudl be fine. I was told to use the command rpm -e filenamehere.rpm. I get the message that the program is not installed. Yet, if I try to install the rpm from CD, I'm told the program is already installed???
I remember something that there is a DB with all the rpm's installed listed, where can I find this, and can I delete the line for freetype then re-install?

Sometimes the fix to this is to run:
rpm --rebuilddb
This re-builds the rpm database. I've run into the situation myself, and re-building usually works. Once you've done that, then try to remove and re-install the package.
Well, I tried all the suggestions given above, and nothign worked. When I try to uninstall the package, it tells me that the package is not installed. AND if I try to install it, it tells me that the package is already installed!
I know that package is installed, but I messed up one of the links, that is why I need to reinstall.
I tried the --force, and it still would not install. I may just do a clean install of teh OS anyway. I'm still very new at Linux and was just sorta learning the ropes anyway.
Course, please still do give suggestions on how to fix my problem. I want to try and save what I have before I lose it and format.
