can 2.6 kernel be installed on fedora 16 which comes with kernel 3.0


i am doing an academic project on filesystems of kernel version 2.6,but the thing is i have installed fedora 16 with kernel 3.0.1 on my new laptop with core i7 processor.Is there any possibility to install kernel version 2.6 in fedora 16.

Very easily.

Either compile your own vanilla kernel from kernel.org or use

http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/pa...3.fc15.src.rpm

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/b...buildID=294920

along with

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel

thank you andrewthomas for your reply. i have one more small doubt, by doing the process given by u am i completely going to shift my kernel version to 2.6 or else both of my kernels will exist simultaneously.If so my kernel is going to shift to 2.6 from 3.0.1 am i going to loose any of the features of fedora 16.Please clarify, apologies if my question is a silly one.

You will be able to choose which kernel you want to use at boot and will probably not be able to tell the difference.
