Question BOINC proxy problem

I have installed a BOINC client (2.12 for linux) on my linux-box at work (Gentoo by the way), but the damn thing won't connect through the company proxy. The client works fine without a proxy (I connect to the outside world through a gateway at home, and have the same client-version running there on linux) and I doubt it is a problem with the proxy. I have BOINC running through the same proxy on my W2K workstation, all other software connects fine from my linux-box to the outside world (lynx, mozilla-firebird, wget, etc).

I have set the proxy in the client_state.xml file;
<platform_name>i686-pc-linux-gnu</platform_name>
<core_client_major_version>2</core_client_major_version>
<core_client_minor_version>12</core_client_minor_version>
<proxy_server_name>http://1.2.3.4</proxy_server_name>
<proxy_server_port>80</proxy_server_port>
<socks_user_name></socks_user_name>
<socks_user_passwd></socks_user_passwd>

The log when connecting:
2003-12-02 10:11:57 [http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/] Using your default project prefs
2003-12-02 10:11:57 [BOINC] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults

BOINC couldn't get main page for http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/.
Please check the URL and try again.

2003-12-02 10:12:17 [http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/] Detaching from project

I have experimented with the proxy setting a bit, trying 1.2.3.4, http://1.2.3.4, http://1.2.3.4/, proxy_name, http://proxy_name and http://full.dns.proxy_name.

Anyone have any experience running the BOINC client on Linux through a proxy?

Hi

Have exact de same problem here with boinc 2-18
I am a total newbie to Linux, thought that might have been the problem.. but now ..

use a Windows 2000 machine with AnalogX Proxy with ISDN
and on the other side of the Networkcable Redhat 9-> its Konqueror works fine with the proxies settings

but Boinc also gives that messages yours gives

hope someone has a solution

and little question: is there a way boinc doesnt ask everytime for URL and ID ?! it gets on my nerves to type that long line in, everytime i try to get that thingy to work

ps.:
eh and sorry for my bad english, didnt use that language for 1-2 years ...

The client will stop bugging you for an URL as soon as it is able to contact the server through the proxy, but that exactly the problem we have, don't we
