BAD anti-aliasing in KDE 3 w/RH7.3

I don't know if anyone else has experienced the "gorgeous"*detect sarcasm* anti-aliasing on the fonts in KDE. I'm of course, referring only to the Type1 and TrueType fonts because the bitmap fonts don't anti-alias. I can click on this checkbox:

K->Control Center->Look & Feel->Fonts->Use Anti-Aliasing for Fonts

And the fonts do look better. Until I log out, that is. Then they look crappy again.

Also, I have an RGB Flatscreen, so I would like to take advantage of the RGB sub-pixel enhancement available. I know that can be accessed here:

K->Control Center->System->Font Installer->Anti-Alias (tab)->use sub-pixel hinting

But whenever I click on the advanced button, I get a KDE crash (signal 11 SIGSEGV). I have the proper libraries installed for this to work. It just doesn't.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I am. And as a matter of fact, I have just done a fresh install of the OS and I have not updated any packages as of yet.

Redhat don't seem to put much effort into their kde rpm's, you might get better resaults with some unofficial kde rpm's.

Is there a distro out there that has really great KDE development? I've noticed also that Red Hat is better for the GNOME lover, than for the KDE lover.

That would be mandrake, kde was one of the main reasons mandrake was started, at the time, redhat didn't even ship kde.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I think I'll give RH 8 a try and if that doesn't do it for me then I'll try MDK again after 4 years. Back in 98, I think, I bought a copy of mandrake 5 at compUSA and I remember trying to dual-boot it with windows 98. (on a 1.3 GB HDD). Is MDK now just as easy to install as RH?

I'd have to say that mandrake is easier to install than redhat.

Redhat 8 has FAR better antialiased fonts than RH 7.3 or Mandrake 9. Too bad device support sucks :-/
