Any tips for installing FC1 and Mandrake 10 dual boot?

I would like to dual boot FC1 and Mandrake 10. I have a 40 an 80 and a 120 gig HD that are in the PC. this is going to be totally fresh installs.

Is there something I should know before I start?

The only advice I can give you is... whatever distro you install first, install the boot loader (be it grub or lilo), but do not install the boot loader when installing the second distribution. Simply edit the first distribution's boot loader so you can boot into both.

And, you only need one swap partition for both distributions

I suspected they might share the swap

will they use seperate root directories?

there will be files I will want them both to access.

Yes, because you'll install them to separate partitions. If you want to access files from both distros, you can try mounting the other partition's distro, but I would suggest (depending on what kind of files you want to share), that you might want to put those files on a partition of their own, which is mountable and shareable by both distros....

I wrote a how-to about this, you might want to look at it, at least to clarify the issues:

nice tutorial

Thanx for the link. I like the way it's written.

I plan on splitting the 40g into 15g for each distro, and around 2g for swap

some of the 80 will go to audio and the remainder and the 120 will be going to video.

I'll be installing mythtv on the FC install. I wanted MDK for a video editor I saw on it. I at least have to re-instal it to find out what it was.
