Yesterday I downloaded the latest Fedora Core 10.0.

It is a 3.9GB large file.

I burnt it as usual and faced the same problem.

I marked the icon 'Verify written data'.

It didn't match the written data and elicited the message 'failed'
at the end of the process.

So it is obvious the latest K3B program and my old CD/DVD burner don't work properly.

Today I bought the following DVD Writer

Samsung SH-S223F

Samsung Intern SATA DVD±RW 22x - Black (Dual Layer) (SH-S223F)

The shop told me if the package was open, I can't return to them.

Do you think the above one will work with my computer.?

This computer is about 5 years old.

I would like to hear your opinion.

I am a bit afraid to open and install; because if it doesn't work I have no use of it. Now I can return it as I didn't open it.

I think jiml8 and I were very clear on this: K3B may fail to perform the verification but that does not mean that the iso was not properly burned. If you verify the md5sum manually, you will find that the iso is just fine. In short, there was no reason at all to buy a new cd/dvd drive.

I do not know about Samsung. I use NEC and have the verification issue - and so does jiml8 using a Lite-ON. So apparently, the problem is not manufacturer specific.

I've run into similar issues with my k3b also, but for different reasons. I run multiple VMs (in VMWare) on my machine. I have found that if any of the VMs have the CDROM drive connected, it will most often error on the verify, or less often actually will coaster my discs.

Thanks jay73

I checked the MD5 sum. It was fine.

If you read my first and the second posts, you would read that I checked the MD5 sum.

The latest K3B program and my old burner do not recognize properly, I guess.

1. Mandriva burning failed; it was a CD.

2. Yesterday Fedora Core 10 burning failed; it was a DVD.

I don't know what to do.

The shop clearly told me it would be impossible return once I opened the package.

Now I could return it within 14 days.

When I had the previous version of 'open SuSE' , it worked fine.

I think it was 'open SuSE 10.3'.

Now I have installed 'open SuSE 11.0'.

I think the old version of K3B and my DVD writer works properly.

I downloaded many Linx distros and burnt without any hassle.

The following is the SHA1SUM output which is consistent with the given SHA1SUM.

linux-j5q7:/media # sha1sum 'Fedora-10-x86_64-DVD.iso'
f1e5ae7db6a1ba227de7294c4112385922388648 Fedora-10-x86_64-DVD.iso
linux-j5q7:/media #
