A 4.0 IT student cant be wrong...
I have been a strict linux user for over year now, absolutely no MS, not eve for gaming. In addtion to my final year of classes, I decided to take the MCSD tests for additional firepower when I graduate.
I installed Win2k two months ago, on a spare 40 gig hd in the server case. I hadnt booted the server into linux for a while, between classes, children, and work, the wasnt time to catalog information. I started becoming used to the pnp of windows, but only slightly. I thought the convience was nice as is my mac ibook. Well during semester breaks I had some extra time and money, bought a new round of 250's, and got to work on a fresh lin raided install. Well in two to three months time, linux is yet again, on the frontlines of technology.
KDE is as polished as ever, has 3D acceleration in the UI, and has made tremendous strides in memory leaks and resource hogging.
What is the point of owning a 64 bit proccesor if you cant even take advantage of the instruction set? Again, linux has been the only and will stay the only os used on my 64 bit desktop.
Any programmers or devolpers here?
Look at these libraries and modules available to us, almost instantly. When you manage almost (been a while since I updated my sig) 10 TB's of always growing data, linux is on the forefront of reliabilty and scalability. I have had zero glitches in the filesystems, db'ing, or longterm uptime. What would cost tens of thousands of dollars in MS and related licensing fees, is reduced to less than a grand. (Yes, you need to support your buisness class linux packages, thats the mojo for Redhat, Suse, and Mandy.)
As god as my witness, I have never had an os corruption or crtical loss of data yet, (just several maxtor sata replacements, avoid those puppies if you can) which I cant say for windows. My options are limitless, and is a coder's dream.
Linux, and linuxquestions .org are like expresso and dark chocolate together...
