4K sector support

Pals,

I have been trying to check whether Linux supports 4K sector volumes. Got few hits on the google, but there is no conclusive proof about 4K support. Please let me know whether Linux supports 4K sectors and if possible, let me know which flavors of Linux has this support.

Thx,
Navin

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

4K-sector drives and Linux & Linux and 4K disk sectors article may help you.

LWN: 4K-sector drives and Linux another useful article.

'libATA' supports 4K native sectors so any modern Gnu/Linux will support >512 sectors.

Be very careful with SSD as this will depend on the controller for the SSD. You can sometimes align to 4K boundaries for the SSD.

HTH!
