I've been running the test-11 version for a few weeks now, just to see how things were coming. It took a bit to get up and running, but it hasn't presented any real problems.

I have noticed that many applications are running a bit faster. When I compiled a custom 2.4 kernel on this box, I noticed a performance gain, but mostly when X was not running. The 2.6 kernel, by contrast, has performance gains with X running as well.

Some interesting info on the new features for the 2.6 series can be found here:
http://www.kniggit.net/wwol26.html
and here:
http://www.linux.org.uk/~davej/docs/
in case anyone is interested. Have fun!

I just downloaded 2.6.0 from www.kernel.org and tried compiling the kernel today. I am currently running Redhat 9.0 with a custom built 2.4.20-8 kernel. After I downloaded the source and tried to build 2.6.0, I kept getting these error messages stating that a "clock skew" was detected. After I ftp'd the file to my box, I also got a system message saying that the timestamp of the file was 440 seconds in the future. Is there something wrong with my current build? Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried touching all of the files in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.0 directory, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

i have never heard of this problem, but maybe it means that the time stated for when the file was downloaded is ahead of the time given

try changing your clock to an hour ahead and see what happens
