Does anyone know a good article I can look at to find good extensive information on the differences between BSD and system v architectures? everywhere I look just talks about where they came from (system v is AT&T and BSD is free from Berkley) and the fact that there was a Unix War between the late 80's and early 90's.
I do have an idea about the differences sys v uses /etc/init.d
bsd uses /etc/rc.d but thats about it.
I would like a grasp on the whole thing. Also maybe I could even determine for myself, which one would be better for whatever situation with performance and security. I currently use Slackware which is of course based off of BSD but I would assume BSD is better for workstations and I use Slackware for a server.
No. thats exactly what I said ive seen too much. I want extensive information.
that article along with everyone like it does not point to one that gives everything I'm looking for.
It may not "point" to an article that "gives you everything" you are looking for but there should be enough info to start Googling, and checking OS documentation.
Anyway good luck, I am interested if anything interesting gets posted here also.

i dont want to start a flame war. if you read my post you would have noticed that A: I was talking about how general the information I could find was. I would assume that right there would eliminate any kind of "starter" wiki article. I also wrote a couple of facts about what I already knew about what I want to know more in depth. Both quick ideas with unix war and /etc/init.d actually directly came from that article you pointed out to me.
I specifically asked for a "good extensive information on the differences between BSD and system v architectures" and you asked me if that "starters" article would be sufficient. I'm sorry, I guess I didnt clarify enough.
Like I said. Ive looked at those starter ones and can not find in depth to the point to what I am looking for. If anyone knows a good link. I would be ever to grateful.

A flame war because my link is not interesting enough? I think not.
Good Luck
