Unreal Tournament goty runs slow

I have just installed unreal tournament goty using wine on a fresh debian testing system, but the game runs very slow, despite I have a fast computer, do I need any packages or do some configurations for the game to run properly?

Forget about running it under Wine and follow the instructions here:

http://www.princessleia.com/UT.php

Oh, and make sure you have the 3D drivers for your graphics card installed! I run the game on an old Athlon 750 with an equally old 32Mb GeForce 2, and it works remarkably well.

UT is an awesome game and was a schweet online But good advice above, run the native version and you'll notice a massive speed increase.

You can use DRI drivers for that chipset if I remember good (available at http://dri.freedesktop.org/).
As for the soundcard, check your kernel for the correct module to load. I'd recommend you to use ALSA instead of OSS

there is a linux version of UT around, should be in most big distros repositories... (debian / gentoo, never use anything else, but there are RPM's)

Just look around for them...
Only issue with the linux thing is, if you play online alot, it downloads REALY slowly...

For recompiling your kernel, login as root and go to /usr/src/linux directory (if you don't have any directory in /usr/src means you don't have the kernel sources and you'll have to download them from www.kernel.org). Once there, type "make menuconfig" to start choosing the kernel options you might want to have.
