Unreal Tournament extra mouse buttons

I'm trying to set up thumb buttons to work with UT. They work in firefox and most progs ok but UT just doesn't seem to recognise them, or keys I try to remap them too (page_up page_down).

So far I've played with xmodmap, tried different drivers evdev and normal mouse. Tried Imwheel also but nothing works.

Has anyone managed to get side buttons to work? Or maybe has suggestions of other progs to use to remap them

And does that make the side thumb buttons work in UT?

I also have an mx510 but I dont use it as usb since I think the mouse socket works fine

As far as I know, they don't even work under Windows with ut 99.

Maybe you could map them with xset to some keys on your keyboard like F13 or something like that, so that you could just configure them in user.ini as a key press instead of button press.
Not really sure if it will worked, maybe just a stupid idea ....
