Tribes 2 sound problem, slackware 9.1, ALSA

k, here's the deal: in tribes 2 and ONLY in tribes 2 with my Soundblaster live 5.1 soundcard sound is always both crackly and too fast. In Fedora it was just crackly in the menus (stopped as soon as I got ingame) now it's crackly all the time and also a bit faster (very noticable if u play the mission briefing for a single player training mission)

Any ideas on how to fix? Slackware 9.1, Soundblaster Live 5.1 soundcard, ALSA sound system, running kernel 2.6.3
