steam runs fun, but hl.exe

steam runs flawless. I go to start up counter strike.. i can only get it in a 600x480 window. (maybe even smaller i am not quiet sure) so i added this to my config

[AppDefaults\\hl.exe\\x11drv]
"Desktop" = "800x600"
"DXGrab" = "Y

At first it will open at 800x600 but then go right back to the smaller size. here is error

fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_resize_desktop Need to update SYSMETRICS after resizing display (now 800x600)
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_resize_desktop Need to update SYSMETRICS after resizing display (now 640x480)
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16

what does it say in the steam config?
i don't think you should be using "Desktop" = <desktop> unless you're using a wine desktop, which is not a good idea
