I've had the same thing happen to me, except mine doesnt actually get to any loading and it goes into the debug. This was with wine2004121(cant run 2003xxxx because they have segmentation faults, but i got 2003xxxx to work long enough to install IE and dcom).
I tried to use the GetCVSWinex and it runs slow as hell. With the old wine install I was getting 250 fps at 1024x768 windowed at the main menu which is about as fast as windows. I couldn't test ingame play because it didnt work.
Now back to the WineX. I ran the script and everything installed ok and the game works and loads maps and everything, but the fps is terrible, and by terrible I mean 4 fps which is unplayable.
I have the 3.7.0 drivers from ati for my Radeon Mobility 9000 and everything else runs fast including glxgears and fgl_glxgears.
I am running fedora core .94 (gonna upgrade when i get the time).
This is the last thing I want to get figured out before I feel content with my linux install and don't contemplate switching back to windows. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.
I hate to say this, but the 9000s I have in my servers are almost entirely shit for 3D... How fast exactly do glxgears and fgl_glxgears run? Try reducing CPU load anyway you can, un-needed services, etc.

No, as I said, I get really good performace in glxgears and fgl_glxgears, 1800 fps and 300+ fps respectivly. I'm using the ati driver made by ATI which worked fine with the previous setup I had with wine which ran really fast, but would crash when I tried to connect to a game server. Now with WineX the game runs slow but it actually works. I think that its not properly using opengl, anybody know why it wouldnt be using opengl?
I really want to play Counter-Strike and really want to stick with linux. Maybe the next release of Wine or WineX will work right at least I hope.
Originally posted by Kujila Guru - On my 9000, I run CS at around 60 fps in Windows, but only around 15 in *nix.
I don't know if that's what you're looking for....
Wow, what drivers are you using for windows, I easily get around 80-100 fps in Counter-Strike on all maps. And thats at 1280x1024. Maybe my other specs are better ::shrugs::.
Ah, that would explain alot of things. Anyways, do you know why my CS would be running so slow in WineX, 15 fps max on menu screen, and so much faster in Wine, 250 fps at menu?
Does WineX require more CPU then WIne? Like I've said 100 times, it runs fast in regular Wine, but in WineX it is slow. The only reason I wan't to get it fast in WineX is because I can't connect to game servers in regular Wine
I can't be sure, and I may be making some of this up, and it may be really confusing... wine is standard, it is the base, everything is built off that. But, WineX maybe working off a much older version of wine, and may therefore be missing some optimisations. Also, WineX has the support for DirectX, and with the CVS version, missing those libraries maybe messing things up. Those are my ideas anyway, who knows for real?
Yeah, I think WineX is based off of an older version of wine. Also I read on the transgaming site that winex 3.2 doesnt support the ati acceleration for some reason. So hopefully this will be fixed in their next release. I also just played the quake 3 demo for Linux and it ran beautifully. I didn't check fps, but it was more then enough to make me happy (even at 1600x1200). I'm glad that ATI decided to support Linux. In the end, this will give developers more reason to make games for Linux.
