sound problems

Hello,

I have an Ensoniq Audio PCI sound card (listed as "ES1371 [AudioPCI-97]").
I am running Red Hat 9.
I have ran the sndconfig program in addition to the GUI based sound card detection utility built into RH (which fixed the sound in BZFlag, but...).

I have a very odd problem in which my sound card works under the normal desktop, like with XMMS, sound mixer, all that fun stuff, but not in certain games...

In Tux Racer, no sound... In Maelstrom, I do have sound...

ZSNES, the sound is all garbeled up...

Anybody know anything or have heard of anything about this and a way to fix it? I don't think it is neccessarily the drivers, maybe I just have a bad version of ZSNES or TuxRacer installed...

Thanks
JW

do you use gnome or kde? if you use either, then you might be running their sound servers, which is NOT good for games (gnome's is called esd, kde's is called aRts). try issueing these commands at the konsole, then starting up your games, and tell us what happens:
killall artsd
killall esd

Thxs for responding...

I went ahead and tryed that, and still getting the same probs...

I am thinking, however, could it be maybe a problem with a midi synthesizer?

Ie, is there a way to see if a midi sythesizer is working correctly?

I have also had SuSE installed and everything (sound etc) worked beautifully.
