Hey-
yesterday, i bought a used copy of Return To Castel Wolfenstein: Platinum Edition. Can someone help me with installation? The only instructions i can find are for the regular version and the Game of the Year version. I guess i did half right, because the opening menu will start, but when i go to start playing, i get the "Please Wait" screen, then it crashes back to the desktop.
System specs are: Athlon 2000+ XP, 512MB of DDR 333MHz RAM, nVidia GeForce FX5700 Ultra.
How did u get it installed? (or did i miss read ur post?) Because I bought the same Platinum Pack edition (the one with 2 cd's right?) and I cant get the second cd to start up, after the first one is done.
Okay, this could get kind of messy, but here goes... I have only done this with Q3A but essentially the process should be the same.
Download the Linux 1.41 (?) pointrelease update for RtCW (and/or Enemy Territory's latest version).
Now, pop in the first CD that contains the .pk3 files and copy them to your Return To Castle Wolfenstein's main directory (which would be under usr/local/games/[rtcw directory here]/main).
Next off, you need to run your update file for RtCW. Whilst doing this, please make sure that the patch POINTS TO THE SAME DIRECTORY AS YOUR PK3'S, or else you'll get an error.
I know RtCW will run under Linux because I've seen it done, but my copy (GOTY) did not have any installation scripts for Linux.
I am not completely sure that this will work as desired, so if somebody can explain it a little more eloquently I'm sure it'd be much appreciated by all.

What you just said is correct, I have the one cd copy.. I have to run setup with wine to extract the pk files... afterwards i run the wolf-linux installer, this installs all the game engine files. I think the pk3 files then need to be copied into the main folder.. then you are good to go!
If the files are in .cab format (I am too lazy to mount and unmount my CDROM) you'd be better off just using an archiving tool (or running WinRAR/ZIP under WinE - Mousewheel and arrow keys crash it in MDK 10 though) and extracting your Pak files manually.
i'm having no luck.. I installed on my Windows partition, only to find out later these files are already extracted properly on the 2nd disk.. anyway, i copied them to /usr/local/games/wolfenstein/main and i ran wolf-linux-1.4-full.x86.run it installed fine. I run the game and get the same problem.. Menu works fine.. I go to start the game, it says please wait for about 5 seconds then crashes to desktop.. the last line of its dialog in an external window says "Received signal 11, exiting...... Signal caught, cleaning up..... Press Return to close this window."
i've followed some instructions found in other threads, and i'm still having no luck.. The multiplayer side works, but the graphics are WAY screwed up... I know my video card is good. Its a new nVidia FX5700Ultra. Runs all my other stuff like a champ... any ideas?
Wow, I have EXACTLY the same problem ur getting, I cant play single player, it fails at the very end of the loading bar, gives me a "signal 11" press return to continue error, but I can play the multiplayer, which is alright. I have a GeForce 2 GTS 32Mb, Mandrake 10. I installed it throught the 1.4 binary, with the RTCW Platinum Pack edition. Some one help me also.

Okay, I copied all the pk3 files from the second CD, and before anyone asks I have the latest Nvidia drivers (and also, I didn't need to decompress any PAK files since they were all under the /data/main subdirectory).
I load wolf.x86 which brings me to a menu prompting me to choose single or multiplayer. I choose single player hoping to see how it runs.
It crashes, and gives me no error, other than an R_Init and does not even specify an error, or ackowledges that one occurred.
What can I do for this? :|

Why did u copy all the files from the second cd? Half of them arent even Regular Wolfenstien, ther Enemy Territory, and I wouldnt be surprised if it conflicts with the NEEDED files.
