I started with Microsoft Flight Simulator X years ago, and at the time used a Logitech Wingman Force 3D. When its Y-axis died, I got a Logitech 3D Pro. For a long time, I used the 3D Pro on my left hand (for more realism) with the Force 3D on my right for throttle and view direction. I recently got a Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System.
If you want something on the cheaper end, I would suggest getting a Logitech 3D Pro, although anything from there "on up" should do fine for you, as long as it has 3 axes (plus throttle).
I hope this helps.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention I switched to FlightGear while I was using both the 3D Pro and the Wingman.
